Patrick Ng'ang'a Karimi started painting in the early 90s after completing his high school education. thereafter he joined Kenyatta University's School of Visual and Performing Art where he did a Bachelor of Education Degree, (Fine Art). Upon graduation, he became a Fine Art teacher at Kamwenja Teachers' College in Nyeri. He later did a Master of Art Degree in Fine Art, Painting option, at the same university. It is in the course of his study that dot painting was born, through experimentation with techniques, tools and materials of painting. Patrick prefers to refer to his painting style as dottillism. This is because his style is characterized by bead-like dots which have a 3-dimensional feel. Patrick has held many solo and group exhibitions in Nairobi, among them; The Talisman Restaurant in Karen, Nairobi National Museum, International School of Kenya, and The Kenya Art Fairs, to mention but a few.
